Premier League Transfer News: Liverpool Sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus

Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa from Juventus on a long-term deal after the 26-year-old Italian forward successfully completed a medical.

Juventus said the deal was worth 12 million euros ($13.30 million) plus 3 million in add-ons for the 26-year-old, whose contract with the Serie A club was set to expire in 2025.

“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans,” Chiesa told LFC.

“So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started,” he added.

Chiesa scored 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juventus in four seasons at the club. He initially joined the Turin-based side on loan from Fiorentina in 2020.

Federico Chiesa will wear the No.14 shirt for Liverpool.

When asked if No.14 has special significance to him during his first interview with LFC, Chiesa replied: “Yeah, it has actually.

“It’s the number I’ve been wearing with the national team but it was an easy pick because Liverpool sent me a video and at the end of this video – which was showing my career [and] the goals I scored with Fiorentina and Juventus – it was me with the No.14 shirt on so I said, ‘Ah, it was destined to be!’, so I chose the No.14.”

Chiesa, the son of former Italy striker Enrico Chiesa, would be the first outfield player signed by Liverpool since the arrival of new manager Arne Slot.

Liverpool signed Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia on Tuesday in a deal that will see him stay at the Spanish team for the remainder of the season.

Chiesa, who joined Juventus from Fiorentina in October 2020 for 50 million euros (then $60 million), starred for Italy in its run to the European Championship title the following year.

He damaged his ACL in January 2022 and was out of action for 10 months.
