AC Milan and Marseille advanced to the second round of the Champions League with a game to spare, but Arsenal's progress was stalled by a 2-0 upset loss at Braga.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his 11th goal of the season and second-half sub Ronaldinho added a goal to give AC Milan (2-1-2) a 2-0 victory at Auxerre (1-4) in Group G.
Real Madrid (4-0-1) clinched first with a 4-0 victory at Ajax (1-3-1). After Karim Benzema and Alvaro Arbeloa built a two-goal lead, Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to give him 18 goals in 19 games this season.
Group F was also settled when first-place Chelsea (5-0) rallied for a 2-1 victory over Zilina (0-5). After Babatounde Bello put the visitors ahead, Daniel Sturridge and Florent Malouda scored for the Blues. Marseille (3-2) won 3-0 at Spartak Moscow (2-3) on goals by Mathieu Valbuena, Loic Remy and Brandao.
Arsenal (3-2) won 6-0 at home against Braga (3-2) in Group H but lost on the road as Matheu scored twice in the second half. Shakhtar Donetsk (4-1) moved into first with a 3-0 win at Partizan Belgrade (0-5), which closes at the Gunners in two weeks. Taras Stepanenko, Jadson and Eduardo scored second-half goals.
In Group E, AS Roma (3-2) rallied for a 3-2 win over visiting Bayern Munich (4-1) to take a big step to joining last season's beaten finalists in the knockout phase. Mario Gomez scored twice before Roma came back in the second half on goals by Marco Borriello, Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti. Basel (2-3) won 1-0 against visiting Cluj (1-4) on Federico Almerares' goal.
