Madrid: Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho strongly criticized his side after watching them slip to a 0-1 defeat away to Sevilla in the Spanish Primer Liga.
A second minute goal was enough to condemn a poor Real Madrid, who were lucky to end with 11 player on the pitch after clear aggressions committed by Gonzalo Higuain and Angel de Maria in the first half Saturday night, reports Xinhua.
It was Madrid's first match since Cristiano Ronaldo had announced he was "sad" and the Portuguese international had a disappointing display on his return to league action.
Above all, however, Mourinho was upset with the attitude of his players, which had already been criticized after their defeat in Getafe in the second game of the season.
"Our defeat was deserved as we played a dreadful game off football. At this moment, I do not have a team," said Mourinho.
"We are lacking collective spirit, there are few players who have compromised the team and for who football is the centre of their lives. I am the coach and as a result it is my fault," he continued.
However, the Real Madrid coach insisted that the Ronaldo affair, which has yet to be successfully explained by either club or the player, had no effect on the display.
"We played as badly as this against Valencia, Granada and Getafe, so we are not going to talk about this," he said.
"I changed two players (De Maria and Mesut Ozil) at halftime, but I could have changed seven. De Maria and Ozil were no worse than the other players. We were a team with no concentration and without the ability to defend. Sevilla fought for every ball as if it was the last, while so far this season we have only done that against Barcelona," said Mourinho.
