Competition, rivalry and insecurity can ruin bonds in show business and there have been many instances of the same. Having said that, friendships between two actors aren’t unheard of. For instance, Raashii Khanna moved to Mumbai many years back at insistence of her friend, Vaani Kapoor, who wanted to pursue a career in acting. Raashii, on the other hand, wanted to focus on her studies and get a post-graduation degree to secure a job. Over the years, both forayed into acting and despite witnessing success, failures and fame, the duo has remained close pals. If anything, their bond has deepened.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Raashii says that keeping this sisterhood afloat with Vaani has never been difficult despite both of them working in the same industry and seeking a similar goal. Attributing the same to having a ‘similar thought process’, she tells us, “Our friendship started way before we became actors. If you’re actors and then become friends, it can get complicated but that’s not the case with us. There’s no complication in our friendship because we both have our own spaces and we only want the best for each other.”
What started off as friendship has changed to sisterhood and Raashii wouldn’t have it any other way. Talking about how insecurity has never crept up between them, Raashii shares, “Today, she’s more like a sister to me than a friend. We never had any kind of friction and I know that we won’t have it in the future. We think alike and we want each other to rise and soar in life. I’m very proud of her and I know that she’s also very proud of me.”
The actor, who was recently seen in Yodha, reveals that she has often had a chat with Vaani discussing friendships in Bollywood and that has only helped them recognise their love and support towards each other. “I remember having this conversation with her and telling her, ‘I’m so proud of the both of us because we’re outsiders and introverts.’ We don’t necessarily follow that path of being seen everywhere and be active everywhere,” she says.
Raashii further continues, “We’re only focused on our craft. We both know and have seen each other working very hard. And I think that’s the kind of friendship that lasts and it’s the kind of friendship we need in our lives. We’re always pushing each other to be the best version of ourselves.”
So, how do they plan on navigating a situation when they’re both vying for the same part in a film? “I don’t know. I think we’ll leave it up to the filmmaker to decide. If she gets the part, I don’t think I’ll ever be like, ‘Oh my god, how can she get it?’ I’ll only be very happy for her. And if I land the role, she’ll be happy for me. I don’t think there will ever be any kind of competition between the two of us and I’m sure of it,” states the actor, who will next be seen in The Sabarmati Report and Aranmanai 4.
