Currently, university and college admissions are ongoing across the country, with many students facing the challenge of high tuition fees for programmes like BTech, MBA and MCA. However, there’s promising news for those worried about the cost of education.
Lucknow’s Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) along with its affiliated colleges has initiated a programme to provide free admission to financially disadvantaged students. Through the AKTU tuition fee waiver scheme, students whose family income does not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh per annum are eligible for free admission.
The application period for the 2024-25 academic session at AKTU has begun. Prospective students are encouraged to apply through the official portal at uptac.admissions.nic.in by July 10, which is the deadline for submissions.
To qualify for free admission at AKTU, applicants must demonstrate a family income of up to Rs 2.5 lakh annually and provide an income certificate during the admission process. Eligible courses under this waiver include BTech, BHMCT, BFAD, BFA, Bachelor in Design, B.Pharma, MBA and MCA, among others.
The scheme will cover 5 per cent of the total seats, meaning free admission is available for five per cent of the seats. Vice Chancellor Professor JP Pandey has suggested that students availing themselves of this scheme must submit all required documentation to validate their eligibility.
AKTU is a sister university and its jurisdiction extends to the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the largest technical universities in India and perhaps even in Asia. Due to its size, number of colleges affiliated to it and geographical spread, it is divided into five zones with 150-160 colleges in each zone for ease of administration and to enable comparison between zones and possible internal competition to improve the quality of teaching and learning processes.
