The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) commenced the High School (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) board exams 2024 on February 22 amid tight security at all 8,265 centres across the state. The UP board exams were held in all respective centres, with CCTV cameras and voice recorders. The exam was also conducted at eight centres set up for candidates detained in various state jails.
The UP board 2024 Class 10 and 12 exams have been divided into two shifts. The first shift included Hindi and Elementary Hindi papers for Class 10 and Military Science for Class 12, while the second shift included a Commerce paper for Class 10 and a Hindi, General Hindi paper for Class 12.
According to reports, 16 per cent of students did not appear for the exam on the first day. Of the 29,43,786 candidates registered in the first shift, 2,03,299 (14 per cent) were absent, and of the 24,67,715 registered in the second shift, 1,30,242 (19 per cent) were absent. A total of 3,33,541 candidates, or 16.20 per cent, remained absent in both shifts.
“Exams for High School Hindi and Elementary Hindi subject and for Intermediate Military Science subject were conducted in the first shift, while in the second shift, commerce exam for High School and Hindi and general Hindi exam for Intermediate took place,” UP Board Secretary, Dibyakant Shukla said as quoted by Times of India.
On the first day of the High School (Class 10) exam, five candidates were caught using unfair means, four boys and one girl. According to the UP Board Secretary, an FIR has been filed against seven impersonators caught during the first shift exam, as well as one centre administrator. According to telephone/email reports from the divisions/districts, no untoward incidents occurred in any district, and the exam was conducted fairly and peacefully, the UP Board Secretary added.
To ensure the security of question papers, the Council of Secondary Education, Headquarters Prayagraj, and all five regional offices of the Council established command and control rooms for the first time this year to conduct online intensive monitoring of strong rooms and examination centres. A command and control room was established in Lucknow’s Vidya Samiksha Kendra building to monitor exam centres online.
The UP Board’s Class 10 (High School) and Class 12 (Intermediate) exams, which began on Thursday, will conclude on March 9 this year. Additionally, 4,02,054 of the 56,94,768 registered students did not show up for their exams on the first day in 2023.
