Fans of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been wondering when the 2024 edition of the tournament is set to begin. With the schedules yet to be announced, the chairman of the IPL Arun Singh Dhumal has provided some clarity regarding the same.

Arun Dhumal was quoted by IANS saying,” We will work with the Indian government, and agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. He also added,” It (IPL) will most likely start from March end… and general elections are in April, so we will work it out with the help of the government.”

In December 2023, CricketNext had already reported that the IPL 2024 schedule would be out only after clarity from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule for the General Elections.

“We had discussions around the IPL schedule and we have no option but to wait for a word from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule for General Elections, which is likely to be around the IPL’s time,” said an official who was present at the meeting between the IPL Governing Council (GC), representatives of some franchises and senior BCCI officials told CricketNext.

CricketNext’s report also suggested that the BCCI could go back to a similar schedule from 2019 where two weeks before the ECI’s announcement, the BCCI had announced the schedule for the first two weeks and the remainder would be announced after the full schedule for polling would be announced.

An official who was present in the meeting also revealed that they remain confident in making sure that the tournament would take place in India but would have to make sure that discussions take place with regards to security and other arrangements in light of the upcoming General elections.
