Team India on Sunday registered an emphatic 280-run win in the first Test over Bangladesh in Chennai. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged a record-equalling five-wicket haul followed by some scintillating hundreds from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill helped the hosts maintain their dominance at home.
Ashwin spun a web around the Bangladesh middle and lower order to choke them in an uphill chase. But before he was brought into the attack, Shakib al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto made the hosts toil hard in the first hour of the morning session on day four. The duo displayed utmost grit, stitching a 51-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma tried former England pacer Stuart Broad’s famous ‘bail swap’ trick and even gestured blowing magic dust on the wickets to get a breakthrough soon.

The Bail Swap Trick
During the 5th Test of the Ashes series earlier this year, Stuart Broad flipped the bails before placing them back on the top of the stumps hoping it to bring some good luck with Australia in a firm spot at 91/1 in response to England’s 283-all out. And immediately after flipping the bails, Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne edged to be caught. Australia slumped to 185/7 before recovering to be bowled out for 295.
Broad did it again in the second innings before bowling to Todd Murphy. The peach of a delivery caught the edge of Murphy’s bat and Jonny Bairstow’s diving handed Broad his final Test wicket.
Kohli Tried it in South Africa
With success @imVkohli ?! https://t.co/yKmPajb2sg— Stuart Broad (@StuartBroad8) December 27, 2023
After Broad’s success, Virat Kohli tried the trick in the Test series against South Africa. The former Indian skipper swapped the bail before Jasprit Bumrah’s over. To everyone’s surprise, the right ar-quick dismissed Tony de Zorzi off the final delivery and broke the 93-run stand. The incident also drew a reaction from Broad on social media.
