Mumbai Indians arrived home – the Wankhede Stadium – in search of their first win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. All eyes were on Rohit Sharma who is no longer the captain of the side but continues to be the star of Mumbai. The fans gathered in large numbers at MI’s home ground to see their local hero taking the field against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday night. However, the former skipper failed to entertain the crowd as he secured a golden duck off Trent Boult’s bowling right in the first over.
Later when he was fielding at the first slip, he had an unexpected visitor on the field who left him jumpscared. A young fan managed to breach the security cover at the Wankhede Stadium to reach out to Rohit and hug him. While the former MI captain was busy adjusting field placements, the crazy fan came rushing from behind and as soon as he got closer to Rohit, the latter stepped back in shock.

The fan then shook hands and hugged Rohit and even Ishan Kishan, who was stationed behind the wickets, before the security officials took him off the field.

Earlier, MI suffered a horrific top-order collapse as Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult shared three wickets each to restrict the hosts to 125/9. The left-arm quick struck early with a three-wicket burst inside the powerplay and Chahal made life miserable for the rest of the batters in the following overs to return brilliant figures of 3/11 in four overs.
If Chahal suffocated the MI batters in the middle overs while stopping both Pandya and Varma in their tracks, it was Boult who ran riot in the home side’s top order, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis for ducks. The tone was set in the first over itself by Boult who rocked the Mumbai Indians twice, including the prized scalp of Rohit who was out for a golden duck.
In reply, Ryan Parag struck an unbeaten fifty, 54 off 39 balls, to guide the Royals to a third consecutive win this season.
