Harshit Rana has been found guilty of breaching IPL code of conduct during the IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Rana played a vital role in helping KKR open their season with a thrilling four-run win on Saturday night at home.
The 22-year-old pacer was punished for two offences during the match.
“Rana committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He was fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fees for the two respective offences. Rana admitted to the two offences and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” read a statement from IPL.
As a result, the KKR pacer has been fined a total of 60 per cent of his match fee.
Rana was charged up during the contest giving send-offs to two SRH batters during his match-wining spell that saw him finish with bowling figures of 3/33 from four overs.

A blistering unbeaten half-century from Andre Russell (64* off 25*) and a solid fifty from opener Phil Salt (54 off 40) propelled the two-time champions KKR to 208/7. SRH openers made a rapid start, racing away to 58/0 before Rana landed the first blow when he had Mayank Agarwal (32 off 21) caught at backward square leg region with a bouncer.
Rana gave the departing Agarwal a stare and a flying kiss before the latter responded with a stare of his own.
Later, Heinrich Klaasen (63 off 29) peeled off a blistering fifty of his own as he resurrected SRH’s chase to drag the contest into the final over. With a six off the first delivery of the over, bowled by Rana, the South African reduced the requirement to just 7 off five.
However, Rana wasn’t done as he first got rid of Shahbaz Ahmed (16 off 5) before removing dangerman Klaasen thanks to an excellent diving catch from Suyash Sharma. Rana was pumped up and he gave Klaasen quite a send-off.
With five runs needed off the last, Rana bowled a dot ball securing the win.
