Updates on the much-anticipated IPL 2025 Auction have arrived with latest reports stating that the mega auction is set to take place during the last week of November.
There has been no confirmation on the official date and venue for the mega auction as of yet from the BCCI, but multiple reports have narrowed down cities in the Middle East as the potential hosts for the grand event.
As per Sportstar, it is believed that the Mega Auction will take place in Riyadh around the 24-25th of November. TOI, on the other hand, has reported Dubai, last year’s host, to be the choice of location for the occasion yet again, set to take place around 30th November.
Whatever the case may be, one can rest assured that the franchises are already scurrying within to figure out their retentions ahead of the nearing October 31 deadline.
There has been much anticipation regarding the same, as multiple franchises have already reportedly made their mind up about possible retentions.
According to a report in Indian Express on Thursday, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who is Mumbai Indians’ most capped player and leading run scorer in IPL history, is likely to be one of the four players retained by the franchise. Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav are also set to be retained by MI.
Meanwhile, it has also been stated by ESPNCricinfo that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will reportedly retain Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins and Abhishek Sharma ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auctions.
The recently-recalled rule regarding uncapped players also opens up a window of opportunity for Chennai Super Kings, who eye to retain their talisman ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni.
The auction purse for IPL 2025 is set at INR 120 crore, with the total salary cap rising to INR 146 crore. Notably, a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per player has been introduced, marking a first in IPL history.
It is left to the discretion of the franchise to choose their combination for Retentions and Right to Match, picking either Indian or foreign players, However, the six retentions/RTMs can have a maximum of five capped players (Indian & Overseas) and a maximum of 2 uncapped players.
