Kolkata Knight Riders posted a 1-run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens on Sunday in the ongoing season of the money-rich Indian Premier League.

KKR keeper Phil Salt came up with a flying effort in the last ball of the chase to run RCB tail-ender Lockie Ferguson out in stunning fashion as the hosts clinched the nail-biter.

RCB won the toss and opted to field first as KKR went on the offensive right from the offing with Salt taking the attack to the visiting bowlers with an explosive knock of 48 runs off just 14 deliveries to get his side off to a flier. He was scalped by Mohammed Siraj, while Sunil Naraine was sent back to the hut for just 10 runs.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed off Yash Dayal’s over as Cameron Green pulled off a stunning catch at mid-wicket before Venkatesh Iyer fell for 16 runs off 8 deliveries.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer came up with a captain’s knock as he reached his half-century with a 50-run performance off 36 balls.

Rinku Singh added 24 runs to his side’s cause while Andre Russell added 27. Ramandeep Singh helped his side over the 200-run mark with a blistering 24-run knock off just the 9 deliveries he faced.

RCB came out to chase the 223-run target and started well as Virat Kohli and skipper Faf du Plessis made 27 runs off the first two overs. However, the opening stand was broken as Kohli was dismissed in controversial fashion off Harshit Rana’s delivery. He called for a DRS review which turned out in KKR’s favour and the Indian star batter was left fuming.

Will Jacks and Rajat Patidhar came up with half-centuries each to propel their side closer to the target after the fall of the openers. Suyash Prabhudesai added 24 runs before Dinesh Karthik’s 25 off 18 deliveries and Karn Sharma’s 7-ball-20 run innings nearly took RCB home.

But, Salt did exceptionally well to condemn RCB to their seventh loss in eight games this season as he collected the throw away from the stumps and dove in the direction of the stumps uprooting the bails before Ferguson could make up his ground to give the hosts a narrow win.
