India will be taking on South Africa in a two-match Test series next in their ongoing bilateral tour. The Men in Blue haven’t played a single match in the format since their 1-0 victory over the West Indies back in July this year. In that game, West Indies won the toss and decided to bat first. They only managed 150 runs in the first innings while India’s Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a five-wicket haul. During India’s batting Yashashvi Jaiswal scored his maiden Test century while Rohit Sharma added another 103 runs. This helped India reach a total of 421 runs before declaring their innings. Ashwin was at his usual antics once again in West Indies’ second batting stint, taking seven wickets to seal a victory by an innings and 141 runs. It will be interesting to see if India can repeat a similar performance against the Proteas next.
The 1st Test of the tour will be hosted by the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium on December 26. South Africa also played their last Test matches against the West Indies back in February this year. They bagged that series 2-0 over the Windies, winning the first game by 87 runs and the second one by 284 runs. However, taking down the World Test Championship finalists is certainly going to be a far bigger challenge.
