Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir was left emotional after a touching tribute by one of the club’s die-hard supporters.

During an interaction, the former KKR skipper was greeted by a supporter who broke down as he expressed his love and admiration for Gambhir.

The Kolkata-based franchise shared a clip of the heartwarming interaction on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In the video, the fan, wearing donning a purple KKR scarf, requesting Gambhir not to leave the franchise again.

“I am one of your biggest fans. Just want to say aap hume chhodh kar aur mat jaiye (don’t leave us ever again),” the fan said.

The fan seemed to be crying before he also sang a line from a popular Bengali song called Tomay Hrid Majhare Rakhbo.

One of the hosts from the meet then explained the meaning of the line that the fan used.

He said, “I think he sang a line from ‘Tomaye Hrid Majhar E Rakhbo, Chhere Debo na’ which basically means ‘I’ll keep you right here, I won’t leave you’ and I think that’s the sentiment everyone has”.

The warm tribute from the fan left a wide smile on Gambhir’s face who responded humbly by saying, “Thank You!”.

The touching interaction between Gambir and the die-hard supporter has drawn reactions on social media.

One of the users explained how the emotion was similar across most Kolkata fans. He said, “Emotions straight from the heart of every KKR fan”.

Another agreed and said, “It’s actually our emotion. Gautam Gambir dada, you’ll always remain in our hearts”.

One fan highlighted how Bengali fans got emotional after seeing this clip, despite not being cricket fans. “Sent this clip to my Bengali friends and they legit got emotional. Mind you they don’t even follow cricket”, he replied.

Another highlighted how those words had come straight from the heart. “Straight from the heart that came,” he wrote.

“Every loyal Indian & KKR fan loves GG for what he has done”, he said.

Gambhir is one of the most successful captains in the IPL, winning the competition twice with the KKR. He spearheaded the franchise to tournament triumphs in 2012 and 2014.

The legendary cricketer returned to the KKR franchise in the role of a mentor ahead of IPL 2024 and under him, the franchise has seen massive improvement.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side has been unstoppable this season, winning eight of the 11 matches they have played so far. They will next face the Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
