Thiruvarur NGO Introduces New Programme To Encourage Self-employment Among Women

In Tiruvarur district, rural women are finding opportunities for self-employment and skill development through a collaborative initiative by the South Indian NGO Association Trust and the Rope Board. Focusing on enhancing the livelihoods of women in the region, the project is specifically designed for members of self-help groups. Approximately 20 women from the Pinnavasal Inter Panchayat in the Tiruvarur district are currently undergoing training to produce value-added coconut fibre products, specifically coconut fibre pedals.

The two-month training program covers various aspects, including the process of making ropes from coconut fibre and subsequently crafting mats. The initiative not only imparts valuable skills but also extends support by facilitating bank loans for women who complete the training. This financial assistance aims to empower rural women by fostering self-employment opportunities.

Expressing her appreciation for the training, one of the beneficiaries mentioned that the course, which spans 15 days, has been instrumental in teaching the production of value-added products from coconut fibre. The beneficiaries emphasized the practicality and usefulness of such training programs, highlighting the potential to generate income through the creation of coconut fibre pedals.

In a broader context, the government of Bihar’s Labour Resources Department has been actively working to create employment opportunities for marginalized individuals and families in the state. Initiatives have been introduced to encourage young people to explore self-employment options, leveraging their skills and talents. As part of the Employment Services Development Plan, a recent initiative involves providing young individuals with toolkits tailored to their qualifications. These toolkits, equipped with materials and tools for specific trades, aim to empower youth to become self-employed and develop new skills. The initiative covers training in various fields, including electrical work, motor repair, fitting, beauty services, and plumbing.

This multifaceted approach not only addresses unemployment concerns but also promotes skill development and entrepreneurship, contributing to the overall socio-economic upliftment of individuals in the region.
