Ameer Sultan’s film Paruthiveeran, released in 2007, led to a dispute with Producer Gnanavelraja during its release, marking Karthi’s debut as the lead. Ameer Sultan directed the movie based on First Copy, but conflicts arose due to budget discrepancies and an extended production period, causing tension with Gnanavel Raja. The issue again came to light when Ameer accused the Tamil Film Producers Association of favouring Gnanavel Raja. Recently, details of the incident emerged, including Gnanavel Raja harshly criticising Aamir and labelling him a thief. Despite this, many actors supported Aamir, and Gnanavel Raja later apologised.
In the current circumstances, director Ameer Sultan has penned a letter to producer Sivashakti Pandian. In the letter, he expresses regret for addressing the issues surrounding Paruthiveeran during a challenging time for the public, grappling with the aftermath of the Chennai floods. Ameer explains the importance of revealing the truth about the film’s release after 17 years, stating that avoiding a response to Sivashakti Pandian’s interview would be a disservice to transparency.
“This letter serves as a notification to Mr. Sivashakti Pandyan and those who supported me regarding the Paruthiveeran film issue and the media industry. Its sole purpose is to provide information. Recently, I watched two interview segments where the movie Paruthiveeran was discussed. I appreciate that, after 17 years, you publicly acknowledged your role in the film’s release matter. I am grateful for your love, trust, and kind words about my career in the interview. Your inclusive approach towards fellow filmmakers is commendable, making the interview feel like an expression of “everyone is nice”, he penned in the letter.
Director Ameer highlights the discrepancies and omitted facts in Gnanavel Raja’s interviews, to address various statements, including those that were denied. It specifically mentions union proceedings and the resolution of film-related issues through negotiation if producers approach the union. However, the interview leaves it unclear whether there is a provision for transferring the censored movie Paruthiveeran to another entity on behalf of the company, “TEAMWORK PRODUCTION HOUSE,” as approved by the Tamil Film Producers Association. Clarification on this matter is being sought.
