No shortage of wheat in India: Govt
This despite pressure growing on commodity prices.

New Delhi: The Government has already started acting to control further rise in inflation. Duties on edible oils have been totally eliminated. Now there are expectations on what other steps could be taken.

Commerce Minister Kamalnath will be holding talks with representatives of iron ore and metal sectors to discuss mechanisms to prevent a spurt in prices.

The Cabinet Committee on prices did not take any decision on these sectors. Finance Minister P Chidambaram has asked states to be more vigilant in fixing limits to storage.

With prices going out of control, the government wants to curb hoarding as much as possible.

Many UPA allies are also putting pressure on the Government to do away with duties on many other essential commodities. The Finance minister will be wary of that

At the GoM meeting to be held on Tuesday, the Government will take stock of just how much time it will take for the prices to come down.

Meanwhile, with all the pressure growing on the UPA government on growing commodity prices, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar claims there is no wheat crisis in the country.

“If we compare our prices with the world, they are lowest in India. We have taken all precautions and will procure the maximum and take care of the public distribution system,” he said.
