Mkts end weak in sync with global mkts
Markets across the globe displayed weakness. Sensex closed down 71.59 pts at 10858 and Nifty down 26.60 points at 3,169.30.

Mumbai: After Wednesday's tech led rally the markets took a breather and closed in the red ahead of Bank of Japan's meet. Markets across the globe have displayed weakness.

Asian markets closed in the negative down around one per cent and the European markets are also trading weak.

The BSE Sensex was rangebound throughout the day and closed at 10,858.50 down 72 points.

The Nifty closed at 3,169 down 27 points. The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,322.33, up 39 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,386.05, up 5 points.

About 1,271 shares advanced, 1,072 shares declined, and 73 shares were unchanged.

BSE sectoral indices closed mixed. Oil and gas, auto and IT indices lost ground but consumer durables, metal and banking indices closed flat.

  • BSE FMCG Index hold firm, up 0.68 per cent; HLL up 2.59 per cent, McDowell up 5 per cent
  • CNX Midcap Index down 0.22 per cent; Polaris up 10.84 per cent, Indiabulls down 3.9 per cent
  • BSE Small-cap Index ends marginally higher; Tata Coffee up 8.3 per cent
  • NSE Advance Decline ratio ends marginally in favor of advances
  • Total Marketwide turnover at Rs 28,278.59 cr Vs Rs 36681.04 cr

The BSE FMCG Index was up 0.68 per cent at 1,991.02. Shaw Wallace, McDowell, Britannia and HLL closed in green.

The BSE Health care index was up 0.2 per cent at 3,164.39. Lupin, Pfizer, Cipla, Cadila Health and Wockhardt slipped.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.19 per cent at 8,495.56. Jindal Saw, Hindalco, Guj NRE Coke and SAIL witnessed selling pressure.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.07 per cent at 4,323.78. Bank of India, HDFC Bank, PNB, Union Bank and UTI Bank were among the losers.

The BSE Capital Goods Index down 0.3 per cent at 7,086.00. Praj Industries, Carborundum, Crompton Greave, Greaves Cotton and BHEL closed lower.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index lost 0.1 per cent at 2,803.84.

The Auto index closed at 4,624.73 down 0.8 per cent. M&M, Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor and Cummins closed lower.

The BSE IT Index was down 0.9 per cent at 3,998.54. Mphasis BFL, Wipro, HCL Tech, Patni Computer and TCS moved down.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed down 1.4 per cent at 5,330.42. Kochi Refineries, BPCL, Reliance, HPCL and IOC were among the losers.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5400.54 crore and the NSE Futures & Options turnover was at Rs 20,362.66 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2,515.39 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 28278.59 crore.
