Mkts end higher, capital goods surge

New Delhi: The bench mark BSE Sensex ended higher on the last day on the week with positive move.

However, the markets surged during the final hour of the trade. The Sensex closed up 86.88 points or 0.65 per cent at 13471.74, and the Nifty up 37.65 points or 0.98 per cent at 3871.15.

About 1469 shares have advanced, 1042 shares declined, and 75 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,721.39 up 56 points or 0.84 per cent. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,648.77 down 36 points or 0.64 per cent.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.2 per cent at 6,829.31. Karnataka Bank, Federal Bank, Andhra Bank, IOB, Vijaya Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.2 per cent at 8,917.62. Aban Offshore, Greaves Cotton, Alstom Projects, Carborundum, L&T, Crompton Greaves, Siemens closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.9 per cent at 3,745.56. Sterling Bio, Aurobindo Pharm, Matrix Lab, Cadila Health, Glenmark closed higher.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 1.1 per cent to close at 6,126.68. GAIL, ONGC, IOC, Reliance, HPCL ended in green.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,345.54 up 0.8 per cent. Hero Honda, Cummins, Sundaram-Clayto, M&M, Punj Tractors, Ashok Leyland ended higher.

The BSE Metal Index was up 1.5 per cent to close at 8,837.89. Sesa Goa, JSW Steel, JindalStainless, Welspun Guj, Mah Seamless, Tata Steel closed in green

The BSE IT Index gained 0.6 per cent at 5,055.15. Wipro, Hexaware Tech, TCS, I-Flex Solution, Mphasis BFL advanced.

The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.4 per cent at 1,902.16.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7556.95 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 31073.18 crore.

The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4188.6 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 42818.73 crore.
