Mala Sinha was a famous actress who made a huge impact in the film industry during the 1960s to 1970s. She was successful for thirty years even though she started acting when famous actresses like Nargis, Nutan and Meena Kumari were busy in the industry. People loved her for her beauty and great acting skills. Mala Sinha had to work hard to be successful and someone even once told her that she couldn’t be an actress because of her nose.

However, Mala Sinha always reportedly regretted that she never got to act with actor Dilip Kumar despite working with many other famous actors. Dilip Kumar himself mentioned in an old interview that he regretted not getting the opportunity to work with her. Mala Sinha was supposed to act with him in the 1976 film Ram Aur Shyam. However, she didn’t land in the film due to some differences of opinion. She was offered the role of Mumtaz but she wanted to play the role of Waheeda Rehman instead. When they couldn’t agree, she decided to leave the film.

Mala Sinha worked hard to leave her mark in Indian cinema and started her career with Bengali films. Her big break in Bollywood came when she met famous actress Geeta Bali who was impressed by her beauty. Geeta Bali introduced her to filmmaker Kidar Sharma who cast Mala in her first Bollywood film Rangeen Raatein where she starred alongside Pradeep Kumar and Trilok Kapoor. After that, Mala Sinha starred in many successful films like Pyaasa, Phir Subah Hogi, Dhool Ke Phool, Parvarish, Ujala, Maya, Hariyali Aur Raasta, Bewakoof, Anpadh and Bahurani. Her talent and popularity made her one of the highest-paid actresses of her time.

Mala Sinha was born on November 11, 1936, in a family with a Bengali father and a Nepali mother. She faced many rejections at the beginning of her career but never gave up. Her real name was Alda Sinha but her school friends reportedly used to tease her by calling her Dalda while her parents fondly called her Baby. Before starting her acting career, she was a radio singer. Her stunning beauty impressed many people which helped her enter the film industry.
