Katrina Kaif is currently revelling in the success of her Sriram Raghavan-directed thriller Merry Christmas, where she portrays the lead role alongside actor Vijay Sethupathi. Recently, she engaged in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Instagram, responding to numerous questions from fans and even shared her experience of working on Merry Christmas. While she talked a lot about the film, her role and the special praise she received from her husband Vicky Kaushal, what truly stole the show amid all her answers, was her response on being asked about her co-star Vijay Sethupathi.
In response to a fan who asked her about her “experience of working with Vijay Sethupathi Sir”, the actress called it liberating and unusual. “Unique, unusual and very liberating, he is extremely comfortable in his own skin, no pretence in front of camera, only honesty,” she said.
Another request that popped in her AMA was “Two words about Mr. Vijay Sethupathi.” To this, she replied “Makkal Selvan.” The term has a special meaning in this context. Vijay Sethupathi is called Makkal Selvan or People’s Treasure in the Tamil film industry.
Apart from this, Katrina also acknowledged Vijay’s help with the Tamil language. “How much time did you take to recite and learn Tamil dialogue? Was it very hard?” asked another fan. To this Katrina replied, “Very very hard….But I had great support from Vijay Sethupathi all throughout.”
While talking about her favourite scene from the film, Kartina shares a still from a particularly heartfelt moment from the movie when Vijay Sethupathi’s character Albert narrates a story to the child actor Pari Sharma’s character Annie to comfort her. Praising the scene, Katrina wrote, “Everytime I see it, it makes me smile so much.”
Apart from Vijay, Katrina also mentioned director Sriram Raghavan and applauded his vision. She wrote, “Sriram Sir lived and breathed every character, he has such insights, and our rehearsals gave us a chance to explore possibilities in every scene.”
Calling Merry Christmas one of the most gratifying experiences of her career, she said that though it was one of the toughest roles of her career so far, the outcome has made her feel very proud.
Though compliments have been flowing from all corners, Katrina got the best response from her husband Vicky Kaushal. When a fan asked her about the ‘best reaction’ she received for the film, she shared a picture of Vicky hugging her and wrote, “Jhappi from hubby”, and added a heart emoji.
The suspense drama, released in cinemas on January 12, has been lauded as a genre-defying tale and is presented in both Hindi and Tamil, boasting a unique ensemble of supporting actors. The Hindi rendition of ‘Merry Christmas’ features Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand, while the Tamil version includes Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams in similar roles.
