New Delhi: Tata Motors has launched its new sedan car - Zest - in India at Rs 4.64 lakhs onwards (ex-showroom Delhi). The prices for the new Zest start at Rs 4.64 lakh for petrol and Rs 5.64 lakh for diesel.
The new Tata Zest comes in five variants - XE, XM, XMA, XMS and top-spec XT, which in its 1.3-litre diesel avatar is the only trim to get AMT.
The Zest has been drawn from the ground up, keeping all of Tata Motors' baggage from the past aside. The Zest comes with a choice of one petrol and two diesel engines and that gives the car a versatile customer appeal.
The petrol is an all-new turbocharged unit, displacing 1,193cc. Tata Motors likes to claim that this is the first turbocharged engine in the segment.
This fact is a tad murky because Ford has the 1.0-litre Ecoboost and Volkswagen, the 1.2-litre TSI, both turbocharged fuel injected engines, though to be fair to the Zest, neither of the cars these engines power belong in this segment.
The 1.2-litre Revotron petrol is a clean and smooth engine, found Bert, on a road test in Goa. The turbo kicks in around 1,200rpm and that provides torque pretty early in the rev band. You get 90PS of max power at 5,000rpm and 140Nm of torque between 1,750 and 3,500rpm which is par for the segment.
On the outside, the Zest gets 15-inch wheels and wrap-around LED tail lamps that are not fully in sync with the front but certainly stylish. There is a sliver of chrome above the registration plate too and the ORVMs are body coloured. All variants get turn indicators mounted on the ORVMs as standard.
There are also many segment first features - projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, follow-me-home lights and a touchscreen audio system with Bluetooth facility. The Zest comes with a 3 year warranty, roadside assistance and maintenance.
All variants of the Tata Zest get 15-inch alloy wheels with different wheel-design for petrol and diesel models.
We have already compared the Zest with its rivals such as the Amaze, Dzire and Xcent shortly. Read the review of the new Tata Zest here.
