Nissan has announced that the Micra CVT variant will now be available for sale at a price tag for Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it one of the most affordable hatchbacks with an automatic transmission in the market.
The CVT (continuously variable transmission) model, produced at Nissan's Oragadam Plant in Chennai, features X-TRONIC CVT automatic transmission. Compared to a conventional CVT, X-TRONIC CVT transmission has no shift shocks and according to the company, offers smoother acceleration. Nissan was the first manufacturer to bring this technology based on CVT to the premium hatchback segment in India.
The Japanese automaker claims that the automatic transmission variant will be providing a mileage of 19.34 km/l (as per ARAI).
Arun Malhotra, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India said, “As Micra is produced right here in India, we are able to better serve the market in terms of faster, more efficient delivery and improved localization levels. This allows us to pass on these benefits to our customers in the form of a revised, even more competitive price for our popular premium hatchback.”
The Micra range starts at Rs 4.51 lakh and the CVT option will be available for XL and XV variant, priced at Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 6.73 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
Nissan’s decision to come out with a CVT transmission in one of their best-selling products seems to be a good strategic move as more and more buyers have now started to opt for variants with automatic transmission in the Indian market, and this move will help them in getting a boost in sales.
